Some
years ago expanded flexible graphite set
standard of leak free performance in valve stems
previously unknown. Leaking of fluid from valve
stuffing boxes is a direct result of a
combination of volume loss and resilience
failure (compression set). Max Seal will not
degrade for either of these reasons and
therefore can provide 100% leak free performance
given that installation instruction are followed
meticulously. The typical hexagonal crystalline
structure of graphite is stable p to 500 deg. C
in oxidising conditions (+2500 deg. C on non
oxidising), that is, it suffers no volume loss.
This is easily explained in that there are no
fillers or binders to degrade and no volatiles
to be driven off.

| The Features to be noted are : |
- Crystalline structure gives
permanent resilience.
- Graphite is self lubricating -
one of the best lubricants known to man.
- Volumetrically stable - no
fillers, binders or volatiles.
- Chemically inert (well - almost).
- Excellent thermal conductivity.
- Essentially impermeable and
without porosity when correctly densified.
- Integrity of structure - no
changes through temperature, pressure or time.
