GRAPHITE TAPES

Some years ago expanded flexible graphite set standard of leak free performance in valve stems previously unknown. Leaking of fluid from valve stuffing boxes is a direct result of a combination of volume loss and resilience failure (compression set). Max Seal will not degrade for either of these reasons and therefore can provide 100% leak free performance given that installation instruction are followed meticulously. The typical hexagonal crystalline structure of graphite is stable p to 500 deg. C in oxidising conditions (+2500 deg. C on non oxidising), that is, it suffers no volume loss. This is easily explained in that there are no fillers or binders to degrade and no volatiles to be driven off.

The Features to be noted are :
  • Crystalline structure gives permanent resilience.
  • Graphite is self lubricating - one of the best lubricants known to man.
  • Volumetrically stable - no fillers, binders or volatiles.
  • Chemically inert (well - almost).
  • Excellent thermal conductivity.
  • Essentially impermeable and without porosity when correctly densified.
  • Integrity of structure - no changes through temperature, pressure or time.
